Introducing the Pub-Sub Service
belongs to Pub-Sub Service ![]() by Marc S. Schriftman on 2008-04-09 12:17 AM read 331 times |
Eric Larson has published the first release of the latest member of the BSGRA service directory - the PubSub service. This service gives BSGRA developers an easy way to publish content. The first version allows developers to publish text messages for easy consumption by other services.
See the API for specifics, and watch this interest group for pubsub-related developments.

Just follow up on Marc's announcment, the Pub/Sub service is minimal implementation of the Atom Publishing Protocol. The API doc page has more information along with links. The goals of the Pub/Sub service has been to provide a very simple and basic service for storing small bits of text. I mention this because in reading about AtomPub, you'll find reference to media entries and different Atom content types. If you are interested in storing something media related the storage services is the way to go for the time being. In the future, if there is aneed for more robust content type's in a pub/sub function, then we'll consider adding it as well.
Additionally, I encourage anyone interested in learning more about how to implement RESTful web services to consder investing some time to look at AtomPub. It is a very good example of RESTful design and can be considered the canonical example of a RESTful service.
